Galaxy S8 launch date and specs teased with images
Later this month sees the annual Mobile World Congress event kicking off in Spain which usually brings us the showcasing of Samsung’s latest flagship handset, but as we have already reported the Galaxy S8 could be a little later for 2017. Today though we have news of a possible launch date as specs are teased with some images.
It is not unusual for accurate leaks to appear on the Internet with any big impending smartphone release, and the Galaxy S8 is no exception. Now from previously reliable sources some Samsung Galaxy S8 details have been teased with the images that you can see on this page.
It is being claimed the Galaxy S8 will come in two sizes starting at a 5.8-inch screen going up to 6.2-inch for the S8 Plus, and both handsets will only come with a curved display. As we reported previously the screens have hardly any bezels surrounding them meaning there will be no physical home button and the fingerprint sensor is moved to the rear as can be seen in the image.
The display is claimed to be pressure sensitive but only on the lower part with an 18.9 aspect ratio. Powering the handsets is claimed to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 with a 3,000 mAh battery in the smaller S8 and a 3,500 mAh cell in the other.
Other claims include the S8 having an 11% increase in performance compared to the S7, and a 23% increase in graphics speed while providing 20% more energy efficiency. There is thought to be 4GB of RAM even though there have been claims of 6GB, with 64GB of on-board storage as standard that is expandable via microSD card.
The Galaxy S8 has been claimed to feature the Samsung DeX facility that allows the handset to be docked to a monitor and keyboard by an accessory sold separately. It is being suggested the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be launched on March 29th with a release on April 21st.
Prices for the two versions of the Galaxy S8 are claimed to be around £690 for the smaller variant, going up to £776 for the S8 Plus which is obviously the price if you purchase the handset without a contract.
